Pension Boards’ New Faith and Finance Advisory Group Meets for Two-Day Planning Retreat

New York, August 24, 2016 – The Pension Boards’ newly-appointed Faith and Finance Advisory Group met at The Interchurch Center in New York City in a two-day retreat August 22 and 23.

The group includes representatives from the National, Conference, and congregational settings of the United Church of Christ, along with Pension Boards’ senior staff and Trustees. Members in attendance included the Rev. James Moos, Rev. Franz Rigert, Rev. Dr. Geneva M. Butz, Rev. Dr. Barbara Kershner Daniel, and Pension Boards staff members Brian Bodager, Maxine Seifert, David Klassen, Rev. Richard Walters, and Rev. Martha M. Cruz.

The formation of an Advisory Group grew out of the Pension Boards’ Policy for Faith and Finance, developed as part of the organization’s strategic planning process. The group is charged with developing a process for evaluating current and future products and services through a lens that integrates the Church’s values and the Pension Boards’ constitutional and covenantal mandates as an affiliated ministry of the UCC.

Target areas of requiring sustainable investment were discussed, including the ministry of authorized ministers and lay church workers, the protection of the environment, partnership with other faith communities, and the global community and human rights. The group also discussed ways the Pension Boards can connect with other UCC financial institutions.

While the participants focused on education, awareness, worship and group building this week, their next meeting in Cleveland in October is expected to turn to more practical work, including the development of ways to enhance collaboration, communication, and dialogue throughout all the ministries of the United Church of Christ.
