PBUCC Announces the Passing of Former Executive Vice President John D. Ordway

Dr. Ordway joined the Pension Boards as Administrative Vice President on March 1, 1974, and assumed the position of Executive Vice President on September 1, 1975. Under his leadership, Pension Boards’ assets grew from $225 million to $1.5 billion. During his tenure, he helped expand the investment options available to members of the Annuity Fund (now Annuity Plan for the United Church of Christ), introducing a balanced fund for members in the accumulation phase, and variable and increasing annuities for retirees.

“John Ordway is remembered by those who served with him as a strong advocate for providing adequate retirement income, working with the national church and local congregations to increase pension contribution rates,” said current Pension Boards President and CEO Brian R. Bodager. “His main concern was always for members’ wellbeing and financial security.”

Dr. Ordway was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, who died in 2016. He was a member of a UCC congregation in Connecticut, and an associate member of Naples United Church of Christ in Naples, Florida. Funeral arrangements were private.
