The UCC Health Plan provides optional vision coverage among its Plan offerings. Vision benefits are available through VSP, a nationwide network of vision care providers. For a summary of the benefits available, click here.
VSP has expanded access to medical eye care services for VSP members and their covered dependents through December 31, 2020.
Members will have access to essential eye care while easing the burden of primary care doctors and emergency room visits who have been helping with the Covid-19 pandemic. VSP network doctors do so much more than help with vision correction. They diagnose and treat conditions including conjunctivitis, eye trauma, and sudden changes in vision. Access to optometrists during this pandemic allows our members to maintain health and visual acuity while easing the burden on primary care physicians and emergency rooms. Visiting the ER may increase exposure to disease, as well as take services away from critically ill patients. We understand the connection between eye care and overall health, and this expanded access will allow our members to turn to their VSP network doctor for essential medical eye care services when they need it most. This extended access to care is ready to use for VSP Members. A standard $20 copay may apply for some essential medical eye care. Members receive treatment in a setting that is safe and comfortable including remote care when appropriate.
Essential medical eye care services include, but are not limited to:
If you’re unable to reach your VSP network doctor to make an appointment, call VSP Customer Care at 1.800.877.7195 and we’ll help you find an eye doctor who is open and ready to assist you. At your appointment, tell them you have VSP. There’s no ID card necessary.
An annual open enrollment period is offered from February 15 through March 15 every calendar year, with coverage effective at 12:01 am on April 1, following receipt of a completed enrollment application along with a check for the annual premium.
The Vision Benefits Plan is offered on a Plan Year basis from April 1 of the current year to March 31 of the following year. Eligible participants (see "Eligibility," below) may enroll in the Plan after the annual open enrollment period; however, coverage will begin on the date that the completed enrollment application and check for the annual premium are received. Unlike the open enrollment period, benefits are not retroactive to April 1.
Renewal invoices are sent out to existing Plan participants (or their employer) prior to the start of the new Plan Year. If the annual premium is not paid by the April 1st due date, coverage will be terminated. If you decide to re-apply at a later date, you will be billed retroactively for a one-year lapsed premium according to the terms of the UCC Vision Benefits Plan. If you are not sure how vision billing is set up for your account, please contact our Member Services team at 1.800.642.6543 for assistance.
